Abstract

This article reflects on the literary experience within the institution of “carabineros” by two chilean authors, Armando Méndez Carrasco and Luis Rivano. For this, it is proposed to analyze the literary biography and the work of both under the concept of eccentricity, understood as a category that accounts for the ambivalent position in their activity as “carabineros” and writers (“pacos” and novelists) as well as the oscillating social situation that they embody the leading characters of their novels, which move towards the margin but from a vision of the middle class. In this sense, the literary style of the authors is interpreted firstly from the context of the cultural and social field that we circumscribe at the time of 1955 and 1973 and, secondly, from their novels that relate the "carabineristic" experiences
