The construction of gender references and its implications in gender violence in universities

Abstract

The purpose of this text is to reflect upon key elements surrounding the concept of gender and its impact in gender violence within the context of Mexican universities. The different factors that influence the configuration of gender contribute to a transformation or continuity of the conditions that either encourage or reject gender violence. The social construction of gender is recognized, not as the only factor that causes gender violence, but as a fundamental element to be addressed from an educational perspective. Therefore, this text analyses, first, the important approaches that construct the concept of gender and its close relationship with violence, and then continues revising the transcendental moments in which universities have addressed this phenomenon. This, with the objective of reflecting on gender configurations in search of contributing to educational environments that are free of violence and which can create new social realities and ways of socializing.
