Abstract

This article is about an extension university project called "Promotoras Legais Populares" and its experience on the combat of violence against women in Distrito Federal, Brazil. The theoretical basis of the project consists on three pillars: an extended vision of law, a popular legal education for the people and affi rmative actions in gender. One of the objectives is to train project students with a critical perspective of law, especially about women's human rights. Another objective is to achieve women's empowerment in order to discover themselves as owners of an essential knowledge to change the rules to wich they are subjected.
